All of America is decked out in red, white and blue, and we are reminded that there is more that unites us than divides us. With every salute, parade, and patriotic song, we are reminded that this gift of freedom, this experiment of democracy, is so dear to us that even to this day, young men and women dedicate their lives to protect it.
Even though it seems this time of year brings a new round of potential threats and calls to be aware of the dangers in the world, we pause to think about what would have happened had 56 men let their fear override their belief in the future of a free and independent state. We have been through worse as a nation, and have endured. We will continue to do so. Are we perfect? No. But the promise and the unity give us the hope. Hope will defeat fear every time.
As the day ends, darkness falls and the first starburst explodes in the sky, we can reflect on the time together, away from work and troubles, and remember that America is still a strong nation. And, thanks to the legacy of those who declared our independence, those who died for it, and those who continue to protect it today…we are free.

Though they work most of the time, the cables do need to be inspected and possibly replaced. You’ll want to ensure the battery is corrosion free because even a small amount can result in a car that won’t start. Additionally, have your battery tested for its cold cranking amps to make certain there is enough power to get your car moving!
It’s also highly important to get your tires checked! The best and easiest way to check your tire tread is with the Penny Test! Insert a penny into the tire tread grooves with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, your tires are at 2/32nds of an inch or less of remaining tread, which means you need new tires immediately!
More essentials include checking to see if your car needs a tire alignment and regularly rotating your tires as recommended.
Tire pressure is also vital to safety. Check your car’s manual to confirm what your car’s tire pressure should regularly be. Make sure you check them when they’re cold, not after you recently drove the car as this will obscure results.
Fill up your gas tank before it gets too low! Few drivers know that when fuel levels drop below half a tank, the remaining gas is more easily evaporated. Running on a near empty gas tank causes another issue: the fuel pump will suck up residue that collects in the bottom of the gas tank which will cause fuel pump and fuel system failure. Save money and improve vehicle fuel economy by ensuring the gas never falls below half a tank.
Check to see if you need an oil change before the rush of getting back into the grind of school. You should also see if you need to replace dirty filters - air, fuel, etc. While you’re in the flow of providing maintenance your car, address your windshield wipers to see if they need to be them replaced, which is vital in maintaining safety during the rainy or snowy months.
